SHEFFIELD United and West Ham today confirmed they have reached an out of court settlement over the Carlos Tevez Affair.
The agreement, believed to be worth around £25m to the Championship club, means that today's independent tribunal, charged with deciding the amount United will receive following last autumn's landmark legal victory, has been cancelled.

In a joint
statement, Sheffield United Chairman Kevin McCabe and West Ham United's Chief Executive Officer Scott Duxbury said: "Both clubs are pleased to announce that a satisfactory settlement for compensation has been reached which brings the dispute between Sheffield United and West Ham to an end. The tribunal will not be resuming."

Mr McCabe said: "We are happy and satisfied with the settlement with West Ham. Throughout the finalisation of the terms for the agreement, the discussions were friendly, co-operative and in the best of spirit with both the Blades and Hammers advisory teams.

"We are two clubs with a fantastic footballing history who now want to move on and focus on the business of playing football – hopefully for us against the Hammers in the Premier League next season. We look forward to a positive ongoing relationship with West Ham at all levels."

Mr Duxbury said: "For everyone concerned, the time was right to draw a line under this whole episode. We have had very positive discussions over a number of days with Sheffield United and acknowledge their willingness to resolve this in the best interests of both clubs.

"This now allows us to concentrate on our immediate ambitions, which include a strong finish to the Premier League season and possible European qualification, without any negative impact on our long-term project. We wish Sheffield United well in their bid to secure promotion from the Championship."

Well done to your chairman, however it will be very interesting to see how much Blackwell is given.

Dear IwishIcouldemigrate, your tirade is understandable but not of the real world I am afraid. With us asking for £45m+ and WHU offering £0 then it was obviously somewhere in the middle as that would be where arbitration led. Compromise ends the deadlock. If it is £25m then I say well done to McCabe for pursuing this, whether there is a case against the Premier League I could not say. Up the Blades.

@ IwishIcouldEmigrate:

I wish you WOULD emigrate! Yes, McCabe has done United a huge disservice by stubbornly chasing Wham through the courts when everyone was telling him it wasn't worth the effort as he'd never win. How dare he secure us millions in compensation when what he should have done was... erm... Sack the board!

Idiot.

West Ham United,7th in the English Premier League.
Sheffield whingeing United still approaching their third year in the championship.
Despite court cases and constantly moaning, you are still an average championship team.
We are looking forward to European football. One day you just might get back out of the Championship, but not this year. You can perhaps now turn your moaning, trying to prevent Leeds building a music arena.boo hoo it's not fair.sue them sue them

I am sick of saying this, I hope this is the last time that I do say it but I dont think so. I wish to emigrate "Do you want Brearley, Woolhouse or Macdonald back pulling the financial strings." I dont care that you were there through division four, porterfield and the dark days.

I was there as well so I also know what is best for the club and so were a lot of supporters but we dont constantly lambast the manager and chairman. You sound pathetic my friend. I am just glad to get some money for the club, I dont care if it goes to pay for old debt, its all a bonus from a chairman who didn't stop fighting. Several weeks ago you defended yourself against another forum user who was sick and tired of your constant gripes about the club. Wednesday fans love a fan like you, it gives them ammunition. We are not them, we dont have massive debt, we are a progressive well supported club. I have only managed to make 2 matches this season because I work on the rigs and I am a level 4 referee. When I do manage to go, all I hear are boo's or moans and it hurts my son and nephew to hear the disgusting wingeing but they still travel 2 hours to watch thier beloved Blades, what they will not do is come on these forums.

@ IwishIcouldEmigrate.............what an idiot, the out of court settlement is quality, secures our clubs finances through very hard times in football for years to come, will make us debt free, get us a new cop and give us stability in the transfer market. if we went for the £45 million West Ham would never exist and we would end up with 10p in the pound if we were lucky. I for one salute Mccabe for his efforts and has been proved right all along (not that we doubted him) Well done McCabe, well done board, lets get the loans paid off New kop built, the other builing projexts built and let the money roll in to bankroll us in future players aquisitions championship or premiership we will be there week in week out. I wishicouldemigrate..... have you always been a prize fool or have you trained very hard at it?

according to most reports we have just won £25million? something that if the man you are slating hadnt pursued, we'd have ended up with how much??? oh yes nothing!!! even if he'd won a whole pound it wouldnt have been more than anyone else who said we shouldnt have done this through the courts would have won,

you obviously have no idea how a civil claims case works, the losing person picks up the tab so to speak, so all the money you claim was "wasted" by McCabe on these fancy lawyers is actually paid for by West Ham, as they have conceded, (hence the offer which will include paying the lawyers)

we have said £48m, West Ham said £0 it was always going to be in the middle, and given the chance that if West Ham offered somewhere in that region, and we refused, we would be liable for the tribunal proceedings if the tribunal gave a lower value to the claim

fact remains we are £25m richer thanks to McCabe, what will be next placing the blame on him for the current world economic crisis, maybe a new conspiracy theory linking him to being the gunman on the grassy knoll!
