SHEFFIELD United tonight sealed the exit of defender Chris Armstrong to Reading for an initial £500,000.
The fee for the 26-year-old left-back could rise to £800,000 depending on appearances and the club's success.

After passing a medical, Armstrong signed for Steve Coppell, who said: "Following the departure of Nicky Shorey we have been looking to s
upplement the left-hand side of our squad. The signing of Chris Armstrong has given the opportunity to do that."

The Scotland B International joined the Blades for £100,000 in 2003 from Bury.

He is expected to make his debut against Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

Reading's Director of football Nicky Hammond added: "Chris is an experienced player who has made more than 200 senior appearances and competed in the top flight.

"We wish him the best of luck and are pleased to welcome him to the club."
