A ROBBER who changed his name to that of 1990s rap star Vanilla Ice is today beginning a jail sentence after admitting mugging a reveller for his mobile phone.
Victim Michael Collier had been partying in Rotherham and was waiting for a train home to Sheffield at the town's station when Ice struck, accompanied by pal Ian Greasley.
Sheffield Crown Court heard Mr Collier had been lying on a bench when Ice,
aged 41, of Norgreave Way, Halfway, approached and asked the time.
When he took out his phone to check, Ice attacked him and tried to take his phone.
Judge Graham Robinson was told Greasley, 27, of Foundry Court, Pitsmoor, shouted at Mr Collier and waved his hand aggressively.
Judge Robinson jailed Ice for two years and six months but Greasley walked free, his 43-week jail sentence having been suspended for two years.
