A BARNSLEY neighbourhood will blossom when it enters Yorkshire in Bloom for the first time.
Residents hope Ardsley will come up smelling of roses in the urban community category next year.
The move comes after a subcommittee of the residents' association was set up to steer the bid, following encouragement from Jo Birch of the council's
parks department.
Now letters are going out to organisations and businesses inviting them to join the venture.
Jo said: "I've been trying to get them to enter for the last two years. They've done a lot of work in the last few years and the area has boundary stones, hanging baskets, planting schemes, floral tubs and some lovely gardens as well as the crematorium in the area.
"But although it's run by the Royal Horticultural Society it's not just about flowers these days. Other elements include recycling, composting and getting the community involved."
New projects could include the development of Scarfield and recreating the rose garden in the park. A calendar will be available at the end of October to help raise funds for the projects.
A detailed report of the entry will be given to residents at a meeting of the association on October 14 at Oaks Club, Ardsley.
