THE famous Newcomen beam engine will be among attractions at Barnsley local history fair tomorrow.
Staff from Elsecar Heritage Centre, where the engine is based, will also be attending the Barnsley Town Hall event.

The pumping engine, which withdrew water from mines, is a monument to the engineering skills of the Industrial Revolution, working
continuously for more than 125 years.

The beam engine has been designated as a scheduled ancient monument.

Local historian Alan Bates, assistant manager at Elsecar Heritage Centre, will answer questions about the engine and collect feedback on setting up a Friends Group for the Newcomen engine.
