BOMFEST organisers were glad when the heavens opened on the music festival in Barnsley - because so many people had turned up it was full to bursting.
Dave Hancock, events manager, said a downpour at 6pm probably prevented hundreds more people attending and saved them from being overwhelmed.
More than 5,000 people rocked in Locke Park at the 5th festival celebrating originial music in Barnsley when 50 bands, acts and DJs played on five stages.
The event also had a fairground, stalls and children's activities. At one point a procession of 60 children, wearing masks they had just made and led by the Ritmo Unido samba band, weaved through the crowd.
Dave Hancock said just four bands were paid to play, including Tom Hingley - ex Inspiral Carpets - and acoustic folkie Nick Harper. Some 43 other bands and DJs from as far afield as Norway, Northern Ireland, London and Newcastle, as well as numerous local outfits, played for the love of it.
He said: "Barnsley hasn't seen a party like it - We BOMed Locke Park! There's not a lot to do in Barnsley and I think a lot of the younger generation are a bit lost. Give them a bit of direction and they really respond.
"I received 200 demos from bands wanting to play and I really seriously vetted them to try to put the best on stage."
Mr Hancock also hailed the work of the 91 volunteers who ensure the festival ran smoothly.
Some of the artists playing at BOMfest were G.U. Medicine, The Headliners, The Delicateers, Kava Kava, Skinboat, Raised by Animals, The Dead Rabbits, Leon Odoherty, Mid Air 91, Del Fuego, Callus, C F Bundy and Katus.
