A BARNSLEY man has become the first landlord in the borough to be prosecuted for not having the correct licence for his pub.
Conrad Baranyai, who runs The Moulders Arms in the town centre, appeared at Barnsley Magistrates' Court charged with providing unregulated entertainment at The Moulders Arms.
Members of the public had complained about live music events at the pub
on Summer Street, just off Summer Lane.
Officers from the Regulatory Services licensing section visited the pub and advised Mr Baranyai that he needed to license his premises to cover musical events.
But despite numerous visits from enforcement officers advising him of his responsibilities Mr Baranyai failed to ensure his premises were licensed and continued to hold live music events, the court heard.
He pleaded guilty and was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay costs of £300.
Coun Charlie Wraith, chairman of the Statutory Licensing Board, said the prosecution was the first in the borough under the new licensing act.
He said: "The court has sent out a strong message to people who think they are above the law.
"Our enforcement officers will continue to track down those who try to get away with unlicensed and unregulated activities."
