AROUND 5,000 people are expected to descend on Locke Park in Barnsley this weekend for a unique music festival.
Bomfest 2008 is a celebration of Barnsley's music and community groups.

Festival-goers can expect five stages of live bands, professional sports coaching and activities, and stalls organised by local groups including gardening and history clubs.

The event, from 12noon to 10pm, is being partly paid for by a £10,000 lottery grant awarded to The Friends of Locke Park.

David Allen from the Friends group said: "Locke Park has suffered from a lack of investment over the years. It is a wonderful spot with several Grade II listed elements such as the bandstand, the fountain and the iconic Locke Park Tower, which is the highest point in the area.

"Years ago there were 13 full time gardeners to tend to it, but lack of funding has since reduced that number to two and the park has borne the brunt."
