FOUR people have been arrested in connection with a South Yorkshire horror smash which killed a man aged 33.
The man, who died of head injuries when a car smashed into a lamppost in Wombwell, near Barnsley, has been named as Shanny Smith.

Mr Smith, from Ings Lane, Low Valley, was one of five people in a Vauxhall Vectra which apparently went out of contro
l on a left-hand bend near Wombwell railway early on Friday.

It was initially believed Mr Smith had been driving, but police say they are still investigating who was driving.

The car hit the kerb at the junction of Wood Walk, Hough Lane, and Dovecliffe Road in Wombwell, hit a lamppost and came to rest beside a bus stop.

Three males and one female, all local, have been arrested and released on police bail while investigations continue.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the crash, or the car just before the accident, at 1.55am to contact the Accident Witness Helpline on 0114 2202970.
