TEN South Yorkshire groups have received a share of £5,500 in community grants.
A top award of £1,500 from the Co-operative's Community Fund has gone to the United Villages Partnership Environment Group to provide facilities for disabled people at a community allotment in Darton, Barnsley, including seating and raised beds.
"
The regenerated allotment will help promote pride in the area and encourage residents to get involved in the community," said environment group secretary Jane Markey.
Grimethorpe Youth Football Club receives £250 to buy new team strips for players, while young artists in Grimethorpe will benefit from a £650 grant to St Luke's Church to fund a series of glass-themed workshops at local schools.
The church, which is creating a new village hall for the community, will use the money to pay for a professional artist to work with children at Milefield and Ladywood junior schools in Grimethorpe as part of an outreach programme.
Parish priest Father Peter Needham said: "When the new village hall has been created we plan to use the space to provide activities for children and young peopley."
Families affected by substance misuse will benefit from a £500 award to the Barnsley Beacon support service to raise awareness of the problem and the support available, while the Gujarat Association of Barnsley receives £500 to fund cultural events in the community including dance workshops.
In Sheffield, Burngreave Amateur Boxing Club will use its £500 award to fund free sessions and open days.
Awards of £500 also go to the Friends of Respite in Maltby to buy toys for children with complex needs and the Mencap Active Leisure Service in Rotherham to buy a large flat screen television for use by groups of disabled people.
Rotherham Breast Cancer Support Group receives vouchers worth £300 to provide refreshments at its drop-in centre, while All Hallows Choral and Music Group receives £195.
