VITAL cataloguing and sorting work is to be carried out when Barnsley Archives and Local Studies department closes for an hour at lunchtimes starting next week.
The service, based in the Central Library on Shambles Street, used to be open throughout the day but will now be closed between 1pm and 2pm Monday to Friday.

Bosses say the lunchtime closure will free up staff to undertake valuable developmental w
ork, including sorting and cataloguing new archives to make available to the public.

Highlights of archive collections catalogued and made available for public access include papers relating to Barnsley footballer Tommy Taylor killed in the Man Utd Munich disaster and material relating to the Public (Civic) Hall disaster of 1908.
