WINGER Martin Devaney is clear to return for Barnsley tomorrow at Southampton - the scene of his dramatic game-winning goal last season.
The 28-year-old stunned St Mary’s a year ago with a goal in time added on to clinch a 3-2 victory.
Devaney missed Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat by Cardiff at Oakwell through sickness. He is back in the squad for tomorrow.
His presence means that Iain H
ume could play alongside striker Jon Macken with Kayode Odejayi likely to revert to substitute.
Anderson de Silva is set to make his first appearance for seven months following knee surgery and manager Simon Davey has hinted that the Brazilian midfielder will start on the bench tomorrow.
Davey was subject to fans’ abuse on Tuesday, mostly after taking Hume off to bring on Diego Leon in the second half against Cardiff.
“Rest assured, we all know results haven’t been acceptable,” Davey admitted ahead of tomorrow’s bottom-of-the -Championship showdown.
Hume was replaced because he was exhausted though jet-lag.
The Barnsley boss also revealed that left winger Mounir el Haimour’s appearances have been restricted because he is fasting from dawn to dusk during the Muslim festival of Ramadan.
Said Davey: “It’s difficult for him and I need people at 100 per cent. A lot of these things go on behind the scenes that people don’t see.”
He added: “We know we have to start picking up points, but we will not panic. We have enough quality in the group to turn it around.”
Bottom club Barnsley have lost six of the seven games played so far.
n Meanwhile, Mark Robins expects Mick Harford’s Luton to have a “real go” when they arrive at the Don Valley Stadium to take on Rotherham United.
The Millers boss says the points deduction factor will kick in tomorrow because of the effect it had on both clubs.
“Luton will have looked at things when the season started after their 30 points deduction and identified ourselves and Bournemouth, who both began on minus 17, as their first targets,” said Robins.
“I think they will come and have a real go.”
