BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey says he has not received offers for football hot property Brian Howard and he expects the midfielder will skipper the team when the season kicks off on August 9.
Speculation has been intense about the future of the free scoring midfielder but Davey reported no approaches for him this summer.
"I spoke to him last week, he was on holiday in Los Angeles, I'm expecting him back next week with the rest of them for pre-season training," Davey explained.
The Barnsley boss did concede that if the price was right Howard could still be sold.
Barnsley players report back to the club a week tomorrow.
Davey plans to have four new players signed up by then. He hoped to reveal the first - probably a striker - today.
Davey has granted both Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Kayode Odejayi extended leave.
Both have been on international duty, Campbell-Ryce with Jamaica and Odejayi with Nigeria.
Miguel Mostto, Barnsley's Peruvian striker who was loaned back to a Peruvian club Coronel Bolognesi last season, is due back at Oakwell next week.
Meanwhile, Barnsley's game at Crystal Palace on Saturday October 18 has been switched to a 5.20 kick-off for Sky TV coverage.
Doncaster Rovers striker Jason Price and defenders Gareth Roberts and Sam Hird have agreed new contracts with the newly promoted Championship club.
All three were out of contract with Rovers this summer.
