FANS' favourite Istvan Ferenczi is quitting Oakwell to go home to Hungary, but Barnsley will not follow up interest in German forward Marco Reich.
Barnsley are selling 30-year-old Ferenczi to Ferencvaros for an undisclosed fee.
While the deal for striker was in the offing, Reich played for Davey's team in a 2-2 friendly draw at York on Tuesday night. He has now left the club. The 30-year-old is an ex-Kaiserslautern player who was at Kickers Offenbach in the German second division last season. He also won one cap for his country.
Ferenczi's departure has left Davey with three fit senior strikers at Barnsley - Jon Macken, Iain Hume and Kayode Odejayi.
Miguel Mostto has yet to return from Peru and Michael Coulson is recovering from a knee operation and will not be available for months.
"We'll possibly be looking for another," cagey Davey conceded.
Ferenczi was put on the transfer list at the start of the summer.
He scored 12 goals in over 50 appearances for Barnsley after moving from Hungarian club Zalaegerszeg 18 months ago.
"It has always been a dream of Istvan's to play for the biggest club in Hungarian football and we were not prepared to stand in his way at this stage of his career," Davey explained.
"Istvan has been a great servant to our club and contributed a great deal to our successes in the last two seasons.
"He has been a major part in what we have achieved and we all wish him every success in the future."
n JOE Ashton, former Sheffield Wednesday director and ex-MP, is urging Wednesdayite not to sell their shares to the Geoff Sheard consortium.
The fans group, who have a 10 per cent holding in the club, are voting on the Sheard's proposed Hillsborough takeover.
They will deliver their verdict on Wednesday August 6 and their leaders are pressing for the deal to be given the nod.
But Ashton today called for a no vote
"Why don't we have the debate now before votes on ballot papers are sent out?" Ashton asked.
