Sheffield Wednesday 4 - Burnley 1; Birmingham City 1 - Sheffield United 0; Derby 0 - Doncaster Rovers 1; QPR 2 – Barnsley 1; Rotherham United 1 – Lincoln City 0; Barnet 1 – Chesterfield 3.
SHEFFIELD Wednesday celebrated a goals bonanza start to the season with a 4-1 home victory against Burnley. A brace each from Marcus Tudgay and Akpo Sodje saw them claim three points.
SHEFFIELD United lost 1-0 away to Birmingham City with a heartbreaking injury-time winner fired by debutant Kevin Phillips.
DONCASTER Rovers made a dream debut in the Coca-Cola Championship with a 1-0 away win against Derby at Pride Park.
Lewis Guy's 59th minute goal was enough to silence most of a 33,000 crowd as newly-promted Rovers defeated a County side who were playing in the Barclays Premier League last season.
BARNSLEY put up a good performance but QPR's Fitz Hall netted a brace to hand his billionaire owners a 2-1 victory over the Tykes at Loftus Road.
The Tykes took the lead in the 5th minute when Iain Hume slid the ball home. But Hall equalised from a yard out in the 29th minute after his initial effort struck the bar. He then smashed in a brilliant volley two minutes later.
The defender missed a second-half penalty and Barnsley's Marciano Van Homoet was sent off for a foul late on.
ROTHERHAM United marked their first ever match at Don Valley Stadium with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal by Reuben Reid.
It was a boys own comic book start for Reid – who was also making his debut, to cap a good overall team display. It reduced their deducted points deficit to -14.
CHESTERFIELD fans were singing in the rain as the day suddenly got a lot brighter with a 3-1 away win at Barnet.
The Bees had the first sting, when Ashley Carew's free-kick from 50 yards caught debutant keeper Tommy Lee off his line and the ball sailed found the back of the Chesterfield net.
But Jack Lester's second-half double, in the space of five minutes, gave Chesterfield a comfortable win. Jamie Ward added a late third goal.
