BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey's bid to pep up his strike force won't end with the record acquisition of Iain Hume from Leicester.
At a cost of over £1m, the 25-year-old is Davey's biggest buy - and the spending won't stop there.
He aims to bring in another centre forward as one of three more new faces at Oakwell.
Davey wants them all signed and sealed before his squad gathers for pre-season training a week today.
It is understood that the fee for Leicester's Player of the Season and top scorer will rise to around £1.2m.
Sheffield United, Wolves and Preston were also thought to be tracking him.
As Canadian Hume arrived to sign a three-year contract, Barnsley confirmed that striker Kim Christensen had left the club after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
Christensen was transfer-listed towards the end of last season and has now returned to his homeland to join Danish side FC Midtjylland.
The 28-year-old forward signed for Davey from Odense Boldklub in August 2007 and managed only one goal in 13 games for the club last season.
Hume top-scored for relegated Leicester last year, netting 11 including one at Oakwell in a 1-0 defeat for Barnsley.
Said Davey in a statement: "We have been tracking Iain all summer and I have been an admirer of him since his days at Tranmere.
"Iain is a big talent who, at the age of 25, is just starting to come into his prime.
"He is an ambitious player who shares our drive and ambition for success here at Barnsley FC.
"The staff are excited about having the chance to work with Iain and develop him even further. We know that he will have a big impact at Oakwell and I'm sure he will become a fans' favourite."
Hume was born in Edin-burgh and joined Tranmere as a 16-year-old.
He went on to make 176 appearances in six years in the first team at Tranmere, hitting 37 goals. His move to Leicester City came in August 2005 when a fee of £750,000 tempted Rovers to sell.
He has been a regular for the Foxes ever since, clocking up 132 games and netting 34 goals.
He made his international debut for Canada in 2003 and has gone on to win 22 caps.
Hume is Barnsley's fourth £1m-plus signing. The others were Georgi Hristov, Ashley Ward and Mike Sheron.
