MANAGER Simon Davey branded Barnsley's Carling Cup first-round exit at the hands of Crewe a disaster.
The Oakwell boss could not hide his disappointment after two first-half penalties gifted the League One side a 2-0 victory.
The Railwaymen's Michael O'Connor and Anthony Elding both converted from the spot as blunders inside the area from Darren Moore and Robert Kozluk saw Barnsley slip to their second defeat in four days.
"It's a disaster to come here and lose," said Davey, who promised a big improvement against Coventry on Saturday.
"I'm very disappointed and the players in the dressing room are too. A lot of fans came down here to cheer us on and I'm very disappointed for them.
"We didn't play well in the first half but in the second half there was only one team in it. However, the damage was already done though with the penalties. If you make mistakes you get punished.
"But we will be back at 100 per cent on Saturday and make sure we get three points against Coventry."
The Reds chief did have praise for Spaniard Diego Leon, one the few Barnsley players to emerge from Gresty Road with any credit.
He added: "He looked very sharp. His general play was good and he looked dangerous in and around the box. If we can take any positives out of the game, he was one."
Alex boss Steve Holland said the performances of his two centre backs, who had a bad start on the season's opening day against Brighton, was key to the victory.
