STANNINGTON Brass Band successfully defended its 'best band' title at the annual Brass Band Festival in Clay Cross.
The event, celebrating its 50th year, showcases three bands which each perform a 20-minute entertainment programme.

Stannington impressed judges with a versatile performance including classical music and film tunes from The Pirates of the Caribbea
n. The prize was the TH Hallworth Challenge Trophy and a cheque for £400.

This Sunday the band hopes to maintain its winning form at the National Brass Band Finals in Harrogate - the highest ranking contest the band has qualified for in its 40-year history.

And on Saturday October 4 the band will play on home turf at 7.30pm at Lomas Hall, Stannington. Tickets £6 and £5. Call 0114 230 1873.
