A FESTIVAL celebrating the work of city artists is to be organised in Sheffield thanks to a £50,000 donation.
Sheffield Contemporary Arts Forum has been awarded the cash by Arts Council England, and will use the money to raise the international profile of city-based artists, and to enable new audiences to experience arts activities.

The award is one of se
ven handed out to groups in South Yorkshire in the latest round of Arts Council funding.

Sheffield-based visual artists Edward Bradbury and Paul Evans have been given £4,950 and £4,755 - Edward plans to create eight murals across the city, while Paul will produce a series of drawing projects relating to Charles Darwin in time for Darwin Day next February 12.

Rotherham Open Arts organisation has been given the county's biggest award - £88,232 - to employ an arts centre coordinator, while Doncaster jazz musician John Escreet receives £5,000 to tour 10 venues across England next month.

Action Space Mobile in Barnsley has been given £64,700 to enhance its existing work with disabled people, and Barnsley-based performing arts group Tell Tale Hearts will use its £29,890 grant to develop a touring show for school pupils.

Andy Carver, executive director of Arts Council England in Yorkshire, said: "These awards create a range of artistic activities and support the Arts Council's work in getting great art to everyone."
