Viridor Waste Management has appointed two new regional managers.
Bob Armstrong, who is based at the Salmon Pastures waste transfer station in Sheffield, becomes regional manager east; while Steve Newman will fulfil the same role for the north west.

Mr Armstrong will be responsible for major landfill sites in Sheffield, Derbyshire and Oxfordshire and a range of other facilities.

He will also be responsible for growing Viridor's trade waste services in his area and the development of new facilities, including a new materials recycling facility (MRF) at Salmon Pastures, due to start operating early next year.

The MRF will be able to separate paper, cardboard, plastics, wood, ferrous and non-ferrous metals from mixed rubbish so that it can be sold in bulk to reprocessors and process waste electrical and electronic equipment.

Mr Armstrong is also a member of the Viridor team bidding to develop a Combined Heat and Power facility at Ardley in Oxfordshire which will generate energy from waste.
