ESPORTA is one gym that's winning in terms of flexibility after cancelling the membership of a man who fell on hard times.
David Strike changed his mind 24 hours after signing up and sent a letter asking if he could get out of the £665-a-year commitment.
Three months later - and without having attended once - he got a letter demanding the full amount. ARC debt collect
ors were then brought in, who were very keen indeed.
David, aged 20, of Parkstone Delph, Charnock, Sheffield, said: "Every week I was bombarded with calls from ARC demanding I pay this balance.
"I'm now unemployed and I haven't got the money."
ALISTAIR Kennedy of Esporta agreed to cancel David's membership.
"We look at all cases individually and try to help our members, so in this case we have agreed to cancel," he said.
But he added: "Mr Strike is not a child. The joining process takes over an hour and he had to fill in three forms to create a contract.
"As with mobile phones, and many other things, generally speaking there's no cooling off period - and when you sign the contract you're in for the duration."
