KATIE Hopewell hoped to get fit by joining a gym. Now she's skint, the fees are weighing very heavily indeed.
The mum-of-two signed up with In Trim, on Ridgeway Road, Intake, Sheffield, but, when she found herself in financial difficulties, she tried to cancel.
Unfortunately, the firm which handles the gym's memberships, Ashburn Financial Services, had a
one word answer to her appeals – 'no'.
Katie, of Manor Lane, Manor, Sheffield, said she was distracted by her two small children when she was signing up and failed to realise she was signing a credit agreement.
In a bid to explain her circumstances, she sent a detailed list of her monthly finances to Ashburn, but to no avail.
Katie said: "I believed it to be a direct debit mandate and felt very pressured into signing up for 12 months. I had both my children with me and just wanted to get out."
ACTIONAN Ashburn spokeswoman refused to cancel Katie's membership.
She added: "If we receive official documentation of her financial situation, say a letter from the Citizen's Advice Bureau, we may consider the matter further."
Be warned.
