Green Scene homepage

Welcome

Green Scene is The Star's latest online initiative - pulling together everything green in Europe's greenest city and South Yorkshire.

In 'Wild in the City' we have united the area's experts on wildlife to give you an insight into the birds, animals and insects that share South Yorkshire with us. Whether you just want to learn more about them or fancy getting about and about to see them for yourself we have all the information.

'Green News' lifts the lid on some of the scores of projects and volunteers working to protect our greenspaces.

'Power from the People' offers you the chance to get first hand advice from people who have experience in taking action against climate change and doing their bit for the environment. This is your chance to get involved and help make a difference.

Power from the People

There's loads to do in South Yorkshire so whatever the weather . . . head outdoors.

Sheffield has more than 130 play areas, six free fishing areas and beautiful gardens bursting with floral displays. You can download a map of all the city's parks and green spaces or get the city's cycle map.

Doncaster also has a wide range of parks and even more play areas as well as cycle routes. The 500-acre Potteric Carr nature reserve, great walks in the Dearne Valley, Howell Wood Country Park, Cantley Woodlands and Sandall Beat Wood.

Barnsley boats the impressive Worsborough Mill and Country Park and Canon Hall Parks and Gardens as well as more than 100 parks and play facilities.

An incredibly 70 percent of Rotherham is rural and the borough is rightly proud of its 10 busy urban parks , nature reserves and woodlands as well as Rother Valley Country Park,  Thrybergh Country Park and Ulley Country Park.
